Day 4 – Astoria, OR
It was a very sleepy day today. We got up early and went for a walk and got gas. The guy pumped the gas for us (maybe Dad didn't know how to work the machine?) and gave us treats. Dad says you aren't allowed to pump your own gas in Oregon - not sure if I buy that or not. Then it
was time to go for a ride in the car. I
think that’s the best part about this trip… we get to ride in the car a LOT and
sleep a bunch. Today was rainy so
sleeping was a good option to pass the time.
Mom and Dad stopped at this place called Tillamook. I’m pretty sure it must have been a
restaurant because once again, we had to stay in the car. They didn’t stay very long so the food must
have been really bad. When we were
there, Mom asked Dad for his set of car keys (the extra set). Dad got a REALLY funny look on his face after
searching his pockets for the keys.
Turns out that at the hotel in the morning he put them on top of the
Jeep and, well, you can probably guess the rest.
Next we stopped at a place called Captain’s Cove. I’m pretty sure this was a restaurant
too. SURPRISE - WE HAD TO STAY IN THE CAR! Dad came back and showed us some pictures he
took from the window. It was just water
and stuff. I don’t know why he gets so
darned excited…
Finally we got to our hotel.
It was by some water. There were
really big ships that floated by and a little train too. I think they were racing and the little train
won. We watched for ships and very late
in the day the best ship of all floated by.
This thing held the MOTHERLOAD of dog food!!!!!! It was the grandest sight we have ever
seen!!! Eli and Lili were plotting a way to escape and swim out to it, just to
have a taste. That idea was very tempting but me, being the “good
one” had to talk some sense into them.
Too many obstacles. Too many
risks. Besides, none of us have every
swam before. Lili and Eli did not speak
to me the rest of the night. Sigh… it’s
so hard being the responsible one sometimes…
Next, Mom and Dad left us in the car in the parking lot of
the hotel and walked behind the hotel and went into a building. It had a sign on it that said “Bridgewater Bistro”. I’m pretty sure that it was a restaurant and
that we were left to guard the Jeep and all of the treasures inside. Let’s just say that we took that job VERY
seriously. We barked and howled at
everyone who came within 30’ of the car. Oh… Mom and Dad had to be SO
proud! Then, Dad came back, got in the
Jeep and drove us over to the parking lot of the building behind the
hotel. He was muttering something about
Mom getting a phone call from the hotel because people were complaining. I think those people were just mad because we
wouldn’t let them steal our treasures.
